The Rhythm of Mother Nature
Sam Mason is one of MASAJ’s masterminds, working behind the scenes to ensure we provide the best environment and service for both our guests and therapists. Not only does he bring his plethora of knowledge from past experience as a bodyworker to the job, but is also currently studying a Masters degree in Yoga, whilst teaching the practice themselves.
To mark the Spring Equinox and the changing of seasons Sam talks about the rhythms of nature, the impact it has on our everyday lives, and the opportunities of balance, self-awareness and care that may arise with the awakening of spring.
Hey there fellow MASAJ-ian,
After the darkness and quietude of Winter, the tender embrace and renewal of Spring is upon us. On Monday the 20th of March at 21:24 (UK) we will experience the Vernal Equinox, meaning that - finally - the days will begin their transition to becoming longer than the nights.
Whether this time of year heralds the festival of Easter, Nowruz, Shunbun no Hi or any other celebration or observance you may hold, it is undeniable that this phase of the calendar feels fresh and full of possibilities. The palpable feelings of optimism all around as Spring envelopes us is a stark and gracious reminder that from all destruction comes new-ness and re-birth.
As we embrace the rise in temperature and enjoy the sounds of the warmed wind soughing through the freshly leafed trees it’s important to remember that these feelings of anticipation can also occasionally oscillate into trepidation for the more open months ahead. For this reason it can be helpful to take stock and think about the following :
Now that the days are in equal light and dark, am I feeling balanced in my life?
Take time to notice the rhythm of your day // week // month - are you feeling equal attention is being paid to the varying parts of your life? If not, using the energy or the equinox, take stock of where you are.
With the space and time that comes from a longer day, how could I invite more balance into my life?
With extra hours to come is it possible to make space for precious past-times, perhaps time with friends or more rest.
How do I know I am in balance // imbalance?
Now the days are longer, notice how you’re feeling at the end of any given day, do you feel satisfied, listless or totally worked out? Spring is the best time to listen to your body and heed its requests for whatever is needed.
From all of us here at MASAJ, we wish you a fruitful, invigorating and vibrant Spring and hope that, should you need it, you’ll come and visit us for any of the self-care and re-awakening you feel empowered to pursue as the blossoms bloom and Chiffchaff’s sing.
