Who is Deep Tissue Massage For?

This treatment is for anyone experiencing:

  • Persistent muscular tightness or discomfort

  • Back, neck, or shoulder pain from posture, work or stress

  • Muscle fatigue from training or repetitive movement

What are some benefits of deep tissue massages?

  • Breaks down knots and tension – Loosens stubborn adhesions and restores range of motion

  • Improves circulation – Increases blood flow, bringing nutrients to muscles and aiding recovery

  • Supports better posture and mobility – Helps correct imbalances caused by daily habits

  • Relieves pain and muscle-related stress – Targets long-term tension and chronic pain patterns

  • Reduces inflammation and speeds recovery – Especially useful after training or injury

  • Re-establishes body awareness – Grounding, focused touch reconnects you with your body

No.2 is dynamic, healing, yet deeply soothing and blissful.

What to Expect During No.6

Unlike relaxation-focused massages, deep tissue uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deep layers of muscle and fascia. Your therapist will work with your breath and feedback to ensure pressure is effective but never overwhelming.

You'll start your session by filling in our MASAJ slate, where you can tell us how much interaction you'd like with your therapist, the mood you’re after (guided or quiet), music, oils and any areas that need special attention.

Each treatment is completely bespoke, focusing on what you and your body need in that moment.

Common Areas We Focus On

  • Back – for posture-related tension and spinal release

  • Neck & shoulders – ideal for desk workers and screen time overload

  • Legs & hips – for runners, gym goers, cyclists, or heavy lifters

  • Full-body focus – when you're ready for a complete muscular reset

Deep tissue massage is tactile-driven, often aimed at providing relief from muscle tension. I like that we can make a significant impact on someone’s wellbeing by using this style of massage to manipulate and guide the body back to a better state than we found it in. Results can often be seen even after just one session, this can be so rewarding to see.

Guest reviews

With over 8,000 reviews across our three MASAJ studios, we’re proud to be rated 4.9/5 by our community.

“I was really lucky to have chosen Gurkaran as my deep tissue therapist. I got into a 90-minute session and we didn’t know where to start. I was stiff top to bottom so we kind of assessed my full body and focused on my back. I feel my mobility has improved immediately and will definitely come back to him to continue my journey to recover my body again.”

“Great deep tissue massage. The pressure was just right, I feel like we have done some really good work on areas that needed it without the discomfort I sometimes expérience in other establishments. The room was a good temperature, the music and light pleasant :)”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We always recommend our guests listen to their bodies and communicate honestly and openly with their massage therapist to find the best course of treatment for their specific issues.

  • Bodywork may include some discomfort, but it should never be painful. If you can’t relax, your muscles can’t either. One persons 8 is another persons 5, always work within YOUR limits.

  • Deep Tissue massage works on the deeper levels of muscles, not just the superficial muscles. The techniques can release deep-set tension and also iron out muscles that need a firmer hand.

  • Muscle tension, commonly called “knots”, is an area of tension that is located in one specific point. This tension is often caused by a build up of lactic acid and stressed out muscles fibres.

Deep tissue can help by ironing out and lengthening the muscle fibres. This treatment also improves circulation to the area, flushing the muscle with fresh, oxygenated blood that feeds and nourishes the area.

  • Of course! You will discuss your specific areas of tension in your pre-treatment consultation. Therapists might advise where is best for optimal results, but ultimately the choice is yours! You can also choose where not to be massaged.
